Monday 17 Feb part 2

En route to Wakulla we drove through yet more areas where there is nothing but trees. Central Florida is so different to the coast where all the built-up areas are. There's very little traffic, hardly any houses-just woods on either side of the road. Both Gainesville and Tallahassee seem like pleasant places. The houses all have lots of trees around them and nice parks are evident. Side roads are quiet and easy to navigate. When you are driving where there are main roads converging however it's a different story. It's manic! Like dodgem cars especially when you're trying to see where the road you want is. Driving around Worcester, however, prepares one for almost anywhere thank goodness!

We took yet another boat trip in what is supposed to be the deepest fresh water spring in the world. The water was certainly very clear. The bird sunning itself is a male anhinga who needs to dry its wings after swimming. They're also known as the 'snake bird' as it does look like a snake when it's swimming with its head and skinny neck sticking out of the water.

Black vultures roosting. They're part of the 'clean-up crew' or scavengers.

Not easy to see but it's an alligator with its mouth open so the sun can dry out the leeches in its lower jaw-yuk.

We're off again tomorrow up into Georgia, so I'll be sure and buy some pecans y'all.

  1. I like the motor museum and you're right about the condition - mint I'd say. The thought of a holiday there is sounding better by the blog, especially the quiet roads. It's amazing the diversity of terrain and the interesting extras like the sink hole. We have just had a huge one appear somewhere and there is a block of modern flats hanging over the side. Says something for the construction as there is not even a crack in the walls. Looks like the future for us so can we have the relatively warm weather all year round and some sun too? Keep up the news.
