Wednesday 12th

Carolyn putting in some sun and Morse time on the balcony. The object on the horizon is one of the many cruise ships that comes into Port Canaveral. This is just North of Cocoa Beach.
As you can see the weather is everything you could wish for.

This is the good ship Blue Dolphin. Not especially graceful lines but it took us on a two-hour tour round the cruise port and inland waterways. On the way we went through a lock with no paddles - they just open the gates to let water in or out. It communicates between the Atlantic and the Banana River lagoon. Bits for the Atlas rockets and the Space Shuttle used to come through en route for the Kennedy Space Center.

We also spotted three dolphins gambolling and a couple of manatees cruising. It's good to see wild life near industrial installations, although there are worries about fertiliser runoff.

After the cruise we did a drive-by of a couple of cruise ships. At over 110,000 tons they are impressive close to. I counted 13 decks above the water line.
A picture wouldn't do justice to them.

This friendly alligator is the one we pictured on our first visit to the wildlife reserve cum buffer zone round the Kennedy Space Center north of Cocoa Beach. Or the same size in the same place if nor the same individual. We went for what is becoming an obligatory drive through spotting water birds. We also saw a couple of ospreys and the odd vulture. No coots this time though.

This is what the belly of a snake looks like. It's a Corn Snake apparently and was about 5 feet long. It didn't seem to mind modelling for half a dozen snappers. It was in the garden behind the wildlife reserve visitor centre. It lives on birds' eggs and fledglings amongst other food hence the tree-climbing.
